Ornament Marketplace kicks off on Black Friday!

The Heard Museum Shop is buzzing with excitement for this year’s Ornament Market!

Decorate your home for the holidays with wonderful Native-themed ornaments that are hand-crafted by American Indian artists. Choose from hundreds of ornaments in a variety of art forms for yourself or for unique holiday gifts.

Bring out-of-town friends and family to learn more about Native cultures while you shop. Get a jump-start on holiday shopping while avoiding the chaos of the mall. Talented Native artists have crafted around 1,000 ornaments featuring carved wood, miniature baskets, pottery and beads, just for this event! There are ornaments for every budget!

Here is a small sample of the ornaments:

Decorated wreaths, books and gifts made by Native artists will also be available for purchase. All of our ornaments are hand-made and one-of-a-kind. Quantities are limited so shop early for the best selection.

Every year the Heard Shop commissions one of our artists to create a limited-edition of 25 ornaments in an exclusive design, as our signature ornament. This year's limited edition signature ornament was created by Lorenzo and Mary Tafoya (Santo Domingo).

Known for her inlay design creativity, Mary chose shells, turquoise and apple coral to depict a thunderbird- a design made famous by Depression era Santa Domingo artists.  It also includes the earth and star.

The silver work on the reverse side, was designed by Lorenzo and includes a pueblo home and a corn motif, symbolizing prosperity and happiness. The bezels are of sterling silver with the motif overlaid on a reticulated surface.

The numbered edition of just 25 ornaments is priced at $175 each.

In addition to the huge selection of varying ornaments, the shop will also be hosting Debi Flanigan ( Bugarini) of Mata Ortiz , Chihuahua , Mexico as their special guest artist.

Debi is widely known for her very clever depictions of animals native to the desert southwest in nativities, as ornaments, and other decorations in clay.  She will be here on Friday, November 27 which is opening day of the marketplace and again on Saturday November 14th

Ornament Market is truly a wonderful opportunity for purchasing something unique and beautiful for the holidays.

The market will take place at in store and online. Ornaments will be viewable online starting November 27, when the market starts in the stores and will be available through December 25 and while supplies last.

Admission to the Heard Museum Shops is always free – and we never charge sales tax!
