This is a great hand woven Navajo pictorial rug by Jane Hyden, who has 2 of her weavings in the permanent collection of the Heard Museum. This piece is particularly interesting because she has created a twist on the traditional Tree of Life rug by depicting actual bird species rather than stylized birds. At a glance, one can recognize Swallows, Tanagers, Cardinals, Blue Jays, Mockingbirds, and more. The traditional corn stalk has been replaced with an oak tree as well. Beautiful!

Ogre Woman with 2 White Clowns by Arnold Holmes (Hopi)
This piece measures nearly 14 inches tall and is carved from one piece of wood. Not only is it an engaging scene with really expressive movement and characters but the figural proportion is quite amazing. Here we have Ogre Woman (Soyuk Wuhti) having chased two white clowns up a tree.
